You guys know I love self-care. And it can change on any type of day, sometimes you need something different than yesterday to make you feel good. Its all about tuning into what your body, and mental health requires in that moment.

Here’s some of my favourite self-care rituals that always keep me going..

 

  • Making a cup of tea
  • Having a hot bath
  • Treating myself to a sweet treat
  • Doing yoga
  • Having a lie-in
  • Getting into bed to relax but not sleep through the day
  • Watching a favourite show
  • Seeing my family
  • Making the effort to wear makeup
  • No makeup days
  • Wearing clothes that make me feel great
  • Not bothering about my appearance
  • Getting lost in a book
  • Turning my phone off
  • Listening to my favourite songs
  • Lighting a candle
  • Eating lots of fruit and veg
  • Connecting with others online
  • Painting my nails
  • Stretching
  • Meditating
  • Playing with my dog on the floor
  • Going for a walk
  • Watching a film I love and have already seen to comfort me
  • Buying myself flowers for no reason
  • Writing in my journal
  • Cooking or baking something for me to eat
  • Getting myself a Starbucks
  • Being silly, laughing, dancing, feeling carefree
  • Looking at old photos

For today’s post I wanted to do ‘a day in the life’ but I thought I would focus this one on social media, how and when I use it! It’s something that we all do at some point in the day, and it really interests me how we all use it differently, depending on the individual.

MORNING

I would say the morning is when I’m most on social media, especially if I’ve logged off early the night before, there will be quite a bit to catch up on. I tend to go straight on my phone as soon as I wake up, which is a bad habit I really want to fix! It’s just too tempting because I have it next to my bedside table.

I go on Twitter, post to Instagram and watch some stories, then spend a few minutes on Pinterest. The morning is also where I get the majority of blog reading done, for some reason I much prefer to read them in the morning as to the evening. I go through my Bloglovin feed and read some of my favourites whilst I’m having my breakfast.

LUNCH

At this point I’m usually at work, and it’s probably been a few hours since I’ve been offline. I tend to have a quick stroll on my lunch break but nothing too time-consuming- maybe a tweet or two!

AFTERNOON

After I’ve come home from work, the afternoon is where I get a post written for my blog or make any Pinterest images I need to for a post I’ve got coming up. I love writing in the afternoon if I get the chance, maybe it’s because I have snacks and tea to look forward to?

EVENING

Along with the morning, the evening is where I spend more time online. I post on Instagram twice a day, so in the evening I put another picture up and spend at least an hour of my evening (in total, I’d say) engaging with other people and scrolling through Twitter and Pinterest.

I tend to either log off at 9pm, or at least incorporate a good hour or two without my phone at some point in the evening, even if I’m watching TV with the fam. I also watch a few Youtube video’s before I read and then head to the land of nod…ZzZz…

 

Social Media Tips

  • Schedule tweets in advance so you’re never caught short. I always do mine on a lunch break or when I’m a passenger travelling.
  • Use an app to plan Instagram photos in advance, I use the Later app.
  • Don’t forget to log off when you need to. YOU come first!
  • Don’t moan about engagement if you’re not engaging with others yourself.
  • Remember not to take it too seriously, especially if you don’t do it for income. It should be fun at the end of the day.

L’OCCITANE BLOG POST

I started the year publishing a sponsored post with L’occitane that you can read here and I was so so happy to work with another well-known brand that I adore. It makes me feel even prouder of my little space here on the web, and I can’t believe it hasn’t even been a full year yet since I revamped and started Natalie Leanne. EARLY CHRISTMAS WITH MY SISTER

Because I won’t be seeing my sister on Christmas day, she came down the weekend before Christmas Eve for an early celebration! We went for dinner, saw family, opened some presents and watched the Strictly final with some apple crumble. It was the most perfect day and so so nice to see her.

 

OUR FIRST TREE

This is the first year we have lived in our new home together, and it was SO fun buying a Christmas tree and decorations. I think we picked some really good ones that some up both of our personalities and vibe and I’ve loved coming home and putting the lights on whilst cosying up on the sofa. Bliss.

 

CHRISTMAS 

I honestly had the best Christmas this year. I’m not going to lie, I did think it was going to be quite stressful as I had a super busy day visiting different sides of the family, but it all worked out perfectly and I got plenty of time to sit back and chat with my loved ones.

 

NEW YEARS

We rang in the New Year with my sister and brother in law, in Aberdeen which was really fun. We actually saw the most amazing firework display, and it felt so wonderful to see it in with family and festive cheer. Definitely a great way to start 2018 I think.

 

Do you have a favourite moment of your month?

 

Just to give you a bit of ‘my skin’ backstory: I’ll keep it short because it’s not the most enthralling of stories is it now?

I’ve always had oily/combination/sensitive skin since I was a teenager, (good skin isn’t in my genetics) and I went on prescription for acne tablets and treatments which worked. Since then it has never been *as* bad, but I did go on the pill a few years ago because it was getting a bit out of control again. And again, that works really well for my skin too.

There are definitely lifestyle choices that keep my skin staying clear (it’s the best it has ever been) and I wanted to share them in today’s post incase it helps anyone out.

 

WATER

I’ve always drunk a lot of water since I was a child, we never had fizzy drinks or even orange juice in the house so it’s always been my go-to. It’s extremely rare that I’m ever dehydrated, but on the few times I have been I’ve always noticed how much more sallow my skin looks.

 

SUGAR

I’m not a sweets person, but chocolate is my gal. I try to make healthy choices and stick to one chocolate treat per day, and that way I still get my fix and a whole load of sugar intake doesn’t give me any blemishes, which is definitely does if I’ve been going crazy on it. Of course some days it is harder to resist than others!

 

A SIMPLE SKINCARE ROUTINE

I’ve wrote about my simple skincare routine and products that never let me down so I’ll link that post here and here but I always find a more stripped back, simple routine does me well and doesn’t overload my skin with different products and textures. It just keeps my skin having a healthy glow.

 

PMS

Without fail, I get a few small spots cropping up around that time of the month, so I try to add a toner to my skincare routine on most nights of that particular week. Most times it can usually be too harsh for my skin. I try not to stress on it too much because I know that will only make it worse and they do go away.

 

NOT TOUCHING MY FACE

As gross as it is, I’m definitely a picker and always have been. This past year I’ve started being really strict with myself and not touching it as much, especially not when I have a blemish or problem area. It really makes it SO much more and takes a lot longer to disappear when it’s been messed with. It can be so hard to just leave it alone but after lots of teenage scars, I know it’s the right step to take!
