In my life, I’ve told myself countless stories. I’m a born worrier. I’ll never get a boyfriend. I’ll always be a size _

And even worse that assigning myself to that negative outlook, I’ve held on to it for dear life. Like a sense of belonging, something I can claim for definite to be true for me.

I’ve replayed it over in my head, that that would just be how my life turned out. No ifs or buts, and certainly not something that I could do about it. I didn’t have any power.

But then, I woke up. Granted, it’s took me 25 years, so this definitely didn’t happen overnight.

I realised that I can be exactly who I want. And the best part is that that could change everyday if I wanted it to, too.

I can travel. I can meet new people. I can be ever-evolving.

I can live. In every sense of the word.

And yes, maybe there are some traits we are born with. But we can break free from them, with enough willpower. We don’t have to be the person who has a story.

We can be our wonderful, magical, happy, sometimes lonely, confused, sad selves.

Every day is a new opportunity to show our best, most authentic us to the world. So let’s do it, and see what life says back. YOU are in control, promise.

I’m categorically only a morning person on Christmas Day. I know that’s a popular phrase on t-shirts around the end of the year, but for me, it’s always been true. This girl just loves her sleep, and bed!

I feel like I must say that I don’t have the earliest wake up call for work every weekday, just before half past 8, but for me, that’s acceptable, and I do it every day without much moaning. So don’t judge me too much please? Anyway, I’ve got my morning routine down to a fine art these days, so I thought I’d share with you my time saving tips…

PACK LUNCH THE NIGHT BEFORE

I do this every morning and when I wake up, I’m so thankful for past me! I really don’t have the energy or patience to be faffing around cutting up a bread loaf when I’ve just got out of bed (first world problems, eh) so I throw everything, including snacks, obviously, in a tote bag ready on the worktop for me to grab when I’m ready.

DON’T SNOOZE YOUR ALARM

I’ve never been a massive alarm snoozer anyway, but I remember reading a few years ago that it’s so much harder for your body to wake up if you fall back asleep for a few minutes, so now I never, ever do it. Once I’m awake, my body tends to energise quite naturally for the day, so I use that snooze time for something else instead… Leading on to my next point!

DESIGNATE SPECIFIC SOCIAL MEDIA TIME

I could easily while away 20 minutes while eating breakfast refreshing social media, but instead I wake up 10 minutes earlier to do it from the comfort of my own bed, and once that’s time up, I get up and get ready for the day, leaving my phone in my bag. I feel like it definitely saves me time, plus I actually focus on enjoying my first cup of tea of the day without being otherwise engaged! Plus, I can always check it later when I’m on a break at work, with my second cuppa of the day ūüėČ

QUICK AND SIMPLE MAKEUP AND SKINCARE ROUTINE

I keep both my makeup and skincare routine super simple on a morning, the less products the better! For skincare I just usually cleanse, then let a face oil sink in while I brush my teeth. Once that’s out the way, I apply concealer, bronzer, blusher, and a bit of mascara (maybe eyeshadow too) and all that takes me about 6 or 7 minutes, max. It’s enough to make me look more awake than I feel, and I know I’m not going to be spending extra time making sure my eyeliner looks passable or if I have the right lipstick on. Just throw a lipbalm in your bag and you can do it on your commute I say!

How do you save time in the morning?

I always love reading these posts by other people, so I’ve really wanted to do my own version for ages! I’m thinking of maybe making them monthly, so do let me know if you like them too ūüôā

1) getting married!

Of course that’s got to be top of the list hasn’t it? We had the most magical day and I can’t wait to share it with you all soon here on the blog, stay tuned for wedding week coming in September when we get our photos back!

2) mamma mia 2

Me and my mum recently took my grandma to see Mamma Mia 2 in the cinemas, and it was so amazing! I smiled the whole way through the film, and we loved it that much we might be going again this week for round two.

3) harry potter

I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve started re-reading the good ol’ HP a few weeks ago, and I’m on book 5 already! I’ve been flying threw them and I’m loving being immersed in the land of Hogwarts! They are providing to be a great escape every evening.

4) yoga with adriene meditations

I’ve always been a massive Yoga With Adriene fan, and they are usually my go-to video’s for a yoga practice. However this past week or so I’ve been doing her meditations which are usually about 10 minutes long, and I’m obsessed. I really felt like I needed a bit of a change up of my meditation practice and this has definitely delivered.

5) baths

Unfortunately, now that the weather isn’t as beautifully sunny and gloriously hot anymore, it does mean I can make the most out of having my baths again. I’ve been using my Aromatherapy Associates bath oils and staying in the tub for prolonged periods and it’s blissful.

6) avocado on toast

I know I said a few months ago I was totally over avocado, but I’m brave enough to admit when I’ve made a mistake. I wanted something different to take for lunch so I thought I’d try them out again on freshly baked bread with salt and pepper, and I’ve been having it nearly every day since!

7) photoshop

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed that I’ve been using Photoshop lately for my creative images. Granted, it’s definitely still a work in progress but it is SO much fun. Every new picture I make is a new favourite and thankfully, you guys seem to love them too which makes me v v happy.

8) anthropologie

I don’t online shop that often, but when I saw Anthropologie was having a sale and I ran out of candles in the house, I made a little order to pick up another two and some new mugs aswell. Why is everything they do in that store so pretty? It’s such a dangerous thing for my bank balance!

9) afternoon naps

The week before my wedding I developed a new relationship with afternoon naps, and although I don’t have one every day anymore, I’m still sneaking in the odd one every now and then! I think sleep is so important, so I’m basically using the fact that it’s good for me as an excuse to have a quick 30 minutes if I need it. You only live once!

10) crash bandicoot

Dan bought crash bandicoot for his Xbox, and over the last few months I’ve basically taken over and played it every single day! It totally brings me back to my childhood, it is extremely addictive, and I usually mute the TV and pop on a podcast in the background.

What have you been loving lately?

If you follow me over on Instagram, you might have seen me on my stories saying my app isn’t working. I think now (after about 5 or 6 days) it’s a little better, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. When I say broken, I mean that I still could post, but I wasn’t seeing anyone else’s pictures. I tried refreshing, deleting and re-installing, and even reporting the problem to Instagram, but nothing seemed to work until today when it’s getting slowly back to normal again.

Anyway, enough of the rambling, heres what I learnt about my Instagram being broken…

I SCROLL MINDLESSLY

I thought I was pretty good at being mindful online, and only going on when I had a decent amount of time spare to interact with people. But actually, I’ve realised how much I just scroll mindlessly, clicking ‘like’ but not commenting as much as I probably should of. I love getting comments myself, so I know how much it means when people like your pictures!

What I’m taking away from it: From here on out, I’m definitely going to try engage and leave meaningful comments more.

HOW IT’S MORE THAN JUST AN APP

For me, what I’ve realised the most with it being broken is how much I rely on and truly love chatting to the lovely, supportive community online. To me, it’s more than just an app. It’s friendships, encouragement, and if you use it correctly, it’s full of people who want to see you thrive. I could get all heart eye emoji’s over this, but I’ll try and refrain myself! I missed seeing everyone’s posts and updates on their life, and the heart-warming sense of community.

What I’m taking away from it: I think I value it so much more now than I did before.

IT’S A MAJOR SOURCE OF MY INSPIRATION

I was pondering the other day how I’d be if Instagram didn’t exist, and the word that stood out to me the most was, uninspired. I’ve always been a very visual person, and I adore¬†the content that my favourite Instagrammers produce. It makes me feel creative, want to try new things, and not feel limited by my iPhone camera. Basically, it makes me want to create. I would definitely miss that if it ever went away.

What I’m taking away from it:¬†Let people know when they’ve inspired me, and start seeking out new accounts more often to add to the inspo.

It sounds silly, but I guess that little app has taught me a lot. Has it ever taught you anything?

I’m sure if your a regular reader of this blog or my Instagram, you’ll know how much I love being creative. To me, being creative can be loads of different things. No longer does it mean you have to be good at painting or a fantastic drawer, I spent so many years thinking I was such an uncreative person simply because I didn’t do well in Art at school.

But it’s so much more than that!

Here’s what being creative means to me…

  • Having an idea pop in my head¬†completely random, and spending the afternoon creating it, with no time restraints or limits. Posting it on Instagram and beaming with happiness that the image in my head turned out as I hoped in real life!
  • The feeling of calm as I use my paints to create different colours and shapes. Brush strokes that feel therapeutic and settle my mind.
  • Letting my thoughts and imagination wander on a walk and enjoying the great outside.
  • Feeling like the possibilities of creativity are endless, and loving¬†every part of it. Yes, even if it means the stuff you didn’t end up happy with and¬†angrily threw in the bin!
  • Marvelling at something that has come from ME, and the pride that comes with that.
  • Spending a few hours in the kitchen baking, and getting lost in my own world.
  • Making up my own yoga flows, dependant on what my body and mind needs on that particular day.
  • Falling to sleep and a blog post idea magically enters your mind! I always hope I remember it in the morning.
  • Painting my nails. Yes, that’s creative to me! Of course, who else is going to choose the colour I want to go for?

What does being creative mean to you?
