WHY SOMETIMES SELF-CARE ISN’T EASY

I think sometimes we all get the idea that self-care is a lot of bubble baths and meditating, which of course in some ways it can be, but to me, self-care is also doing the things you need to do, not the ones you necessarily want to.

I loved this post by Emma on self-disciplineΒ which I think definitely comes into play here. Even something as simple as giving myself a manicure even though I feel super lazy and want nothing more than to sit on the sofa eating biscuits, can be an act of self-care that I don’t really feel like doing at that moment, but I do it because I know it will help me feel better. And it ALWAYS DOES.

Learning to sit with my thoughts and not act immediately on them, is self-care that isn’t easy.

Going to the gym when I feel bloated and sluggish, but I know I need it, is self-care that isn’t easy.

Having a tough conversation with someone that you’ve been putting off, is self-care that isn’t easy.

Resisting 3 kitkats because you feel crappy, but you know it won’t end well, is self-care that isn’t easy.

Basically this whole post is just to say that not everything we do to better ourselves and our life, is easy. But it is so so worth it.

And remember, we’re all in it together anyway. You are not alone <3

Take it easy! Just try little small steps everyday, such as walking a bit more or eating more fruit and veg πŸ™‚ there’s no rush, especially if you don’t have the time at the minute!

  • In the past self care was something that I didn’t exactly think about that much. I never took a me time that was mindful which is what that time should be. Now I got so much better with checking in with myself and making time to really relax. x

Making time for myself to relax and just be, is so vital! xx

Definitely agree with this! The other night all I wanted to do was slob on the sofa but I made myself have a shower with a hair mask and do my nails and I felt so much better for it!

I can relate to being too lazy to do a manicure, or take my makeup off, or do my workout, but afterwards I’m so glad I made myself! Great post, self care is so important, but definitely not always easy.

Thank you! I’m so glad you can relate to what I’m saying in this post πŸ™‚

  • This is so true, self care isn’t easy but it’s still so importent to do. xxx

I love the easy parts of it too, but I think it’s important to share it’s not all easy all the time πŸ™‚

This is so true, and to be honest, until now, I never really thought about it that way. When I resist on eating that whole bar of chocolate and just have one piece, that is self care too!

  • I love this post Natalie. Self care isn’t always easy is it but if we feel better for it in the long run then it’s so important. Just found your blog tonight and really loving reading all your posts πŸ™‚

  • It’s so refreshing to read about self-care as something deeper than surface-level things! I’m guilty of associating it with bubble baths and chocolate treats but the things that you mentioned will have much longer lasting effects.
