TWO HIGH-END BEAUTY PRODUCTS NOT WORTH THE HYPE.

When I asked you guys on Twitter whether I could do a ‘not worth the hype’ post containing 2 products, thankfully you all said yes!

I really enjoy reading these type of posts because I like to see two different opinions on a product, especially if I’m contemplating buying it! This is my first time writing one up though so be sure to let me know whether you’ve liked it.

NAKED 3 PALETTE

When I first received this as a Christmas present a few years ago, I was ECSTATIC. Just look at all those pretty colours! I thought I would get SO much used out of it.

The first time I started applying it, I couldn’t get ANY colour pay-off from any of the shades. I even tried to use some of the darker colours since then, but have honestly been so unimpressed. There’s also loads of fall-out and it is so faint on the eye-lids that it might aswell not be there.

To say the palette is £40, my opinion on it is very underwhelming. I might try it again some time in the future just so it actually gets some use, but I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC FOUNDATION

This is another very unloved product in my collection.

It’s marketed as a full coverage foundation, but whenever I’ve worn it, it ‘sits’ on the skin and makes me look very doll-like. I’ve tried using just my hands and then a buffing brush, neither really made a difference.

It was very matte, and seemed to magnify problem areas that I had by flaking. I’m pretty sad about this because its an expensive purchase, but I can’t see myself loving it in the future either.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?

  • Such a shame to spend so much on a product and then for it to disappoint! Very helpful post x

  • It’s always a shame when products don’t live up to the hype! I think there will always be hype around Urban Decays Naked Palette releases whether they’re great or not, as majority of them are! Great post xx

    • Its definitely put me off trying any of the other ones unfortunately! x

  • Interesting to read about the magic foundation, I was looking at investing in a higher end foundation but seeing as I’m not a fan of a matte finish I will probably now steer clear! Thanks for the reviews x

I completely agree about the Magic Foundation! I was so disappointed – it didn’t have enough coverage on my skin at all. Maybe I was expecting something miraculous after all the hype, but I’ve seriously had so many cheaper alternatives that have done the job better!

I love my Urban Decay 1 palette though – I wonder if it’s better in quality than number 3! I’ve never tried any of their other palettes so I have no idea how they differ.

    • Ooh thats interesting to hear, I’ve never tried any other of the naked palettes! xx

  • I know what you mean about the Naked 3 palette, I do like it but find there is a lot more fall out than normal UD shadows. I’ve heard mixed things about that CT foundation so I think I’ll give it a miss!

    • Unfortunately its put me off trying any of the other palettes, but thats super good to know! Maybe I might go have a few swatches in store xx

  • Stuff like this is so helpful for knowing what to avoid purchasing! I’ve always wanted to pick up one of the Naked palettes but never have – definitely not going for 3 in that case! xxx

    • I love these type of posts for that reason! They always make me reconsider before purchasing! x

  • I’ve got the Naked 3 palette and get so much wear out of the shades, even the darker ones. BUT I totally get you on the fall out problem. I always end up having to wipe away bits that end up on my cheeks

  • I haven’t tried the foundation but always wanted to. Thanks for your review! Now I don’t feel so bad not having it in my collection 😉

    • At least I might of saved you a few pennies (or a lot in this case!)

  • Courtney Hardy

This is good to know. I don’t wear makeup myself, but this did help me have a better understanding of products that work that well.

I definitely agree with the CT foundation bit. I wanted to love it, but it’s way too mask like on my skin for me to enjoy it! Great post lovely xx

  • It’s so weird.. I have the Naked2 and I love it! It’s one of my favorite palettes and the shades preform really well. Maybe they changed the formula?!

    • Oh really, I’ve heard great things about the other two so maybe I should swatch them in store! xx

  • I’ve heard so many bad things about the Naked 3 Palette but honestly don’t feel the same about mine! There is so much pigment in my palette it’s unreal! It’s such a shame you’ve had a different experience with it! xo

    • It’s so interesting when you hear different opinions about the same products! x

  • I love the Magic foundation! I agree with you about the Naked palettes being overrated, however! x

    • It’s such a shame I didn’t particularly get on with it! x
